The Episcopal House of Prayer – A Ministry of Spiritual Transformation

HOUSE OF PRAYER IN THE CITY

an extension of the ministry of the
Episcopal House of Prayer in Collegeville, Minnesota

A Quiet Place Apart In the Midst of the Noise and Haste

Located next to St. Mark’s Cathedral in downtown Minneapolis, The House of Prayer in the City, 425 Oak Grove Street, offers a variety of programs and classes.

As we continue our ministry of presence here in the city, we continue to be experimental and to listen carefully to those who come, as we seek to be true to our calling to assist all asking for our help in the spiritual formation of their lives.

We welcome your comments and suggestions and encourage you to pass the word to others to whom these programs might be appealing.

To be added to our mailing list, email us at houseprayer@csbsju.edu.

Classes

 Reading God

Mondays 7:30-9:00 p.m.

February 4 - March 10

One of the major causes of the fundamentalisms sweeping the globe today is the superficial reading of sacred texts.  This course will uncover the ancient techniques that approach spiritual writings, both old and new, which involve purification preparations, contemplative study through living transmissions, mantric chants opening one to the language of the texts, ultimately bringing one into greater union and deeper communion.  Each student participant will discover new meaning and enlightenment as the mysteries of these texts become revealed through deep prayer and practice!  For those seeking a new Lenten discipline, this will be most appropriate material.

Cost: $50. Led by Ward Bauman, Director of the House of Prayer.

Meister Eckhart: Prophet for the 21st Century

Mondays 7:30-9:00 p.m.

April 7 - May 12

As we probe the thinking of this 13th century "heretic", we will be shocked at his relevance for today's seekers.  He knew then, what we are seeking to discover now - and are needing now so desperately.  He was truly a man ahead of his time, just waiting to open us to the great mysteries of the Christian path.  This course is a study in the ancient practices that truly transform the student.

Cost: $50. Led by Ward Bauman, Director of the House of Prayer.
